BHS Silver Challenge Award - Care
Overview
Learn the basic principles of horse care and how to safely and efficiently undertake daily tasks in this thirteen-week integrated training and assessment programme. This course is accredited by The British Horse Society.
Full Description
Tasks you will cover include routine grooming, mucking out, bedding down, cleaning and adjusting tack and providing food and water.
Successful candidates will receive a certificate on completion of the course. Successful completion of both this BHS Silver Challenge Award - Care and the Silver Challenge Award - Lunge provides direct entry to the BHS Stage 2 Care and Lunge. A full and detailed syllabus may be obtained from the British Horse Society website.
The instructor/student ratio is 1:12.
Free parking is available on campus in Writtle: we'll issue a permit to you and ask that it's clearly displayed in your vehicle. Tea and coffee-making facilities are available; please bring any other refreshments.
Who Should Attend?
This course will suit people (over the age of 14) who wish to learn how to care for a horse.

Entry Requirements
You must be over 14 to join this course; parental consent will be required.
In line with BHS training centre standards and due to the nature of our horses, we ask that students weigh no more than 13 stone (82.5kg) which includes your PPE (personal protective equipment).
Please come appropriately dressed for an equine yard.
By making a booking you are declaring yourself medically fit to participate in the course.
