Physical Health Skills in Mental Health Care

Overview

This two-day workshop covers theoretical and practical aspects of care for Health Care Assistants (HCAs) working in mental health settings.


Course Description

Day 1

  • ABCDE approach theory
  • Explanation of and familiarisation with equipment used from cardiac/trolley/grab bag eg naso-pharyngeal/oro-pharyngeal tubes, suction machine and catheters
  • Vital signs theory and practice (TPR, SPO2)
  • Blood pressure theory and practice
  • ECG theory and practice

Day 2

  • Neuro-obs theory and practice
  • Blood capillary glucose monitoring theory and practice
  • Sepsis theory-demonstration of Sepsis 6 protocol
  • Physical health scenarios

Who Should Attend?

This workshop will benefit all Health Care Assistants (HCAs) currently working in a mental health setting.
