Tree and Shrub Identification

Overview

This is a practical course which aims to help you identify the main native and naturalised broad-leaved trees and shrubs found in Writtle College's grounds. We'll also look at evergreen shrubs and conifers.

Full Description

Explore methods of identifying trees and shrubs, in the extensive grounds of Writtle College. Our one-day course focuses on identification from the bark, twigs, buds, seeds and fruit of trees.

You're welcome to bring in any of your own unidentified plants to share with the group.

Free parking is available on campus in Writtle: we'll issue a permit to you and ask that it's clearly displayed in your vehicle. Tea and coffee-making facilities are available; please bring a packed lunch and any other refreshments.

This is one of several short courses in planting and gardening at Writtle. We also offer Pruning Fruit Trees, Pruning Your Shrubs, and a General Gardening Day.
