Master of Rehabilitation Counselling
The Master of Rehabilitation Counselling is a postgraduate degree that provides students with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional expertise to support individuals with disability, injury, or social disadvantage in achieving independence, accessing services, and participating in education or employment.
Program Overview
This program is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to deliver vocational assessment, counselling, case management, life skills training, and social support to clients with disability, injury, or vocational disadvantage. The program is available online, with a mandatory placement, and can be completed in 1 to 1.5 years full-time.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for this program, students must meet one of the following criteria:
- A recognised Bachelor degree (or higher) in a related discipline and two years of relevant work experience
- A Graduate Certificate in Case Management and Mental Health (3404) or Graduate Certificate in Disability Studies (3370) (or equivalent) Students must also have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 4.0 (on a 7.0 point scale) in their previous qualification.
Language Requirements
English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants are:
- A minimum overall band score of 7.0 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 7.0
- OR a minimum score of 580 on TOEFL
- OR an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 92 (no score less than 22)
- OR no score less than 4 in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by ISLPR Language Services only)
- OR a minimum overall score of 185 (no score less than 176) on C2 Proficiency (formerly Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English)
- OR an overall score of 65 in the Pearson Test of English (Academic) with no score less than 65
Tuition Fees
The indicative annual tuition fee for this program is $27,000, based on a standard full-time study load of 80 credit points. Tuition fees are reviewed annually and are subject to change.
Program Structure
The program consists of 120 credit points, which can be completed in 1 to 1.5 years full-time. The program includes:

Career Opportunities
Graduates of this program will be equipped to work as accredited rehabilitation counsellors across government, insurance, workers' compensation, and motor accident rehabilitation, disability employment services, the National Injury Insurance Scheme (NIIS), and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). They will also be prepared for leadership, research, and specialist practice roles in rehabilitation counselling.
Accreditation
The Master of Rehabilitation Counselling program is accredited by the Rehabilitation Counselling Association of Australasia, which is recognised by the Australian Society of Rehabilitation Counsellors (ASORC).
Professional Recognition
Graduates of this program are eligible for full membership of the Australian Society of Rehabilitation Counsellors (ASORC), subject to meeting any additional requirements stipulated by ASORC.

Work-Integrated Learning

Graduates may be eligible to advance their study in a Higher Degree Research (HDR) program, such as the Master of Health and Medical Research (5763) or Doctor of Philosophy (6001).
