Program Overview

MAE M168 introduces fundamental concepts of the finite element method (FEM) and its applications to structural mechanics, solid mechanics, and heat transfer. Students will learn about direct matrix structural analysis, weighted residual methods, shape functions, and numerical integration. Practical use of FEM software is emphasized, including geometric and analytical modeling, preprocessing, and postprocessing techniques. Students will complete term projects using computers.
