The Undergraduate Certificate in University Preparation provides foundational skills and knowledge for students seeking an alternative pathway to university study. Through elective units in learning at university, academic writing, and academic numeracy, students develop essential abilities for navigating the university environment, engaging with academic information, and reflecting on their learning capacities. Upon completion, students are prepared for further study in a Diploma of University Studies or other undergraduate programs.

The Undergraduate Certificate in University Preparation (20B) is designed as an alternative entry pathway to university study. The units included in the course provide foundational skills and knowledge to begin an academic journey.


Objectives:

Upon completion of the Undergraduate Certificate in University Preparation, students will be able to:

  • Navigate the university environment confidently
  • Engage with academic information in various contexts and formats
  • Interpret and evaluate knowledge from diverse perspectives
  • Reflect on and develop their capacities as learners
  • Undertake further study, with credit into a Diploma of University Studies

XAB011 Learning at University:

This unit provides underpinning skills, theories, techniques, and strategies to prepare students for university-level study and understand themselves as learners. They will be introduced to concepts of self-management and relevant practical skills applicable in academic settings.


XAB021 Academic Writing:

This unit develops students' ability to communicate in written form in a university environment. They will gain skills and strategies to plan and write academically. In particular, they will analyze assignment tasks, learn how to structure and organize arguments, and develop appropriate referencing and citation practices.


XAB091 Academic Numeracy:

This unit develops the mathematical knowledge, skills, and confidence essential for further University study.


Careers:

This course prepares students for further study at the university level. Upon completion, students will have the foundational skills and knowledge to pursue a Diploma of University Studies or enter other undergraduate programs.
