Program Overview
This two-year associate degree in Applied Design provides a foundation in design principles and processes, with a focus on Communication, Digital, or Business design streams. Through hands-on projects and industry engagement, students develop practical design skills and prepare for careers in design-related fields. Graduates may pursue roles in user experience design, web design, creative direction, or launch their own creative enterprises. The program also offers a pathway to further study in the Bachelor of Design.

Teaching:
The program is designed to provide students with a practice-based learning experience. Industry-connected projects, practices, and expectations are integrated into the curriculum, and students are encouraged to apply their learning to their work or personal experiences. Tutors are established designers in Tasmania who apply design to care for people and place. They see opportunities for individuals, communities, and businesses to thrive by designing the transitions we all need to make swiftly, for local and global resilience.
Careers:
Graduates of the course may take on work roles involving: inclusive user experience design; web design and digital content creation; creative direction of projects and events; visual design strategy for new and existing organisations; or launch their own creative enterprise. Upon completion, students can also choose to expand and deepen their design learning and gain credit towards the Bachelor of Design. This course offers five stream options: Communication Design, Digital Design, Business Design, Object Design, and Spatial Design, with engaging opportunities for cross-pollination and networking across our design, art, media, business, and architecture disciplines.
