This one-year full-time or two-year part-time course is offered internally at Hobart and Launceston.
Objectives:
- Provide advanced training and consequent in-depth knowledge within a particular discipline covered by natural environment and wilderness studies.
- Train students in research techniques relevant to that discipline to enable either postgraduate research entry or employment in research.
Outline:
Core Units:
- KGA436 Honours Thesis Part A: This unit involves proposal of research activities, selecting a research topic, and developing a research plan.
- KGA437 Honours Thesis Part B: Continuation of research work, participation in seminars and workshops, and development of research skills.
- KGA438 Honours Thesis Part C: Final production of a substantive research work, typically a thesis or professional portfolio.
Elective Units:
- KGA461 Honours Project A: Development of discipline-specific knowledge, skills in method development, project execution, and communication.

Entry Requirements:
For Domestic students Candidates shall have qualified for admission to the degree of Bachelor of Natural Environment and Wilderness Studies at this University or equivalent qualification at another approved tertiary institution. For International students Admission to Honours courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree. Applicants must achieve the required grade in their qualifying studies, meet any prerequisite subjects and the English language requirements to be eligible for an offer. Admission is conditional on research project and supervisor availability. English Language Requirements For students who do not meet the English Language Requirement through citizenship or prior studies in English in an approved country, evidence of an approved English language test completed within the last 2 years must be provided. Course Specific Requirements Candidates shall have completed the degree of Bachelor of Natural Environment and Wilderness Studies at this University or equivalent qualification at another approved tertiary institution completed to a standard of achievement that is deemed acceptable by the College.
