The Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba offers a four-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree program. This program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in medicine, preparing them for a career in healthcare.
Program Details
The MD program is a continuum over four years, organized into Pre-Clerkship (Years 1 and 2) and Clerkship (Years 3 and 4), each divided into four modules. The program focuses on developing clinical approaches to disease states relevant to each system, as well as providing a foundation in the sciences.
Module 0: Foundation of Medicine
This module provides fundamental scientific knowledge essential for studying and practicing medicine. It covers topics such as cell biology, genetics, and the impact of exogenous factors on health.
Module 1: Human Biology and Health
This module provides a comprehensive understanding of normal processes specific to individual systems, laying the groundwork for clinical practice and disease management. It covers topics such as normal development and embryology, gross anatomy, and physiology.
Module 2: Health and Disease
This module builds upon the foundational knowledge established in Module 1, focusing on developing clinical approaches to disease states relevant to each system. It covers topics such as abnormal processes and pathophysiology, epidemiology, and therapeutics.
Module 3: Consolidation
This module emphasizes the integration and application of content from previous modules to patient care in complex healthcare environments. It covers topics such as single symptom conditions, multisystem diseases, and systemic diseases.
Module 4: Transition to Clerkship
This module aims to shift students' focus from theoretical learning in Pre-Clerkship years to the practical provision of care in diverse healthcare settings. It covers topics such as supervised responsibilities, teaching formats, and integration of UGME objectives.
