Community Development and Human Rights

Program Overview

This program explores the concepts of community and community development within a human rights framework. It equips students with models of self-advocacy and skills to assist clients and community members in accessing services that address the Social Determinants of Health for newcomers to Canada.

• Examines theories and definitions of community, community organization, and community development in a human rights context.
• Introduces models of self-advocacy at the individual and community level.
• Develops skills needed to help clients and other community members access services that address the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) for newcomers to Canada.
