Finance and Management MSc
Overview
This MSc is a specialised master's, which provides in-depth knowledge of key finance and management concepts, offering a powerful boost to your future career progression.
During the course, we encourage collaborative working through Peer Action Learning Sets. As a member of a Learning Set, you'll share practical and academic experiences and reflect critically on case studies, debates, and problems.
By the end of the course, you’ll have the intellectual tools and knowledge to tackle real-world issues within the financial sector or within financial departments of organisations. Successful completion of this course also provides exemptions for 11 exam papers from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

Course structure
We use a wide variety of teaching and learning methods which include lectures, seminars, class discussions, case studies, group work, presentations, and applied study.
Compared to an undergraduate course, you'll find that this master's degree requires a higher level of independent working.
Assessment methods include assignments, reports, presentations, and peer- and self-assessment.
Course modules
Corporate Governance and Financial Management (30 credits)
Engage in the exploration of portfolio management and wealth planning, as well as risk diversification, by focusing on creating a sustainable investment portfolio through examination and analysis of financial data of listed companies. Examine various financial management concepts such as capital structure, investment appraisal techniques and mergers and takeovers through real-life case studies. Develop transferable skills needed for roles within financial institutions, stock broking, investment and portfolio management, treasury, and corporate finance departments of companies.
International Financial Markets and Financial Data Analysis (30 credits)
International Trade and Finance (30 credits)
Financial Decision-Making in a Multi-National Corporation (30 credits)
Finance and Management Research Project (60 credits)

Facilities
You’ll be based at The Reg Vardy Centre, on the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter’s. The Reg Vardy Centre is a modern building with views of the river, and just a short walk from both the coast and Sunderland town centre.
Entry requirements
Our typical offer is:
- a bachelor's degree (3 years) with a 2:2 classification

To apply for this course, you'll need a 2:2 honours degree, or equivalent, in a business/finance related discipline. We'll also consider relevant experience in this field.
