Program Overview


Program Overview

The Master of Applied Finance (Financial Services) is a comprehensive and advanced program designed to equip students with in-depth knowledge of financial institutions, bank management, and lending. Through work-integrated learning and ongoing collaboration with industry, participants will gain a conceptually sound and practical understanding of the global financial system.


Program Structure

The Master of Applied Finance Financial Services requires the successful completion of 72 credit points of subjects. To complete this program, it will normally take five or six trimesters (based on 3 trimesters per year where you take 2 subjects).

  • Financial Statement Analysis for Business (FIN 924, 6 cp)
  • Advanced Managerial Finance (FIN 926, 6 cp)
  • Socially Responsible Finance (FIN 950, 6 cp)
  • Financial Institutions (FIN 958, 6 cp)
  • Risk Management (FIN 962, 6 cp)

Specialisation Core Subjects

  • Banking Theory and Practice (FIN 925, 6 cp)
  • International Banking (FIN 955, 6 cp)
  • Bank Lending and Securities (FIN 956, 6 cp)

Elective Subjects

Students are required to choose an additional two subjects from the list below:


  • Portfolio Management (FIN 923, 6 cp)

  • Trading and Dealing in Capital Markets (FIN 957, 6 cp)

Program Outcomes

Upon completion of the program, students will gain practical, hands-on, and job-ready skills essential for success in the financial services industry. Some of the key skills acquired through this program include financial analysis, risk management, understanding of banking operations, insurance and wealth management, data analytics, and technology integration.


Accreditation and Recognition

All degrees at the University of Wollongong in Dubai are accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the UAE Ministry of Education and are licensed by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). The business degrees are also accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).


Admission Requirements

Students applying for a master's degree must have completed a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) at an accredited institution of higher education and have achieved the minimum grades outlined below. English language proficiency is also required, with accepted tests including IELTS, TOEFL, and others.


English Language Requirements

At UOWD, all classes are taught in English, and students must submit one of the following certificates of English language proficiency:


  • IELTS (Academic) with an overall score of 6.0
  • TOEFL (Internet-based) with a score of 79
  • TOEFL (Computer-based) with a score of 213
  • TOEFL (International paper-based) with a score of 550

Credit for Prior Learning

If seeking credit for prior learning, students will need to submit official academic transcripts, syllabus details, and an explanation of the grading system. Eligibility for Credit for Prior Learning will be decided in consultation with UOWD's Faculty Offices prior to the beginning of the program.
