Program Overview


English Language Arts Education (CEGB) Program

The English Language Arts Education (CEGB) program is designed to prepare students for a career in teaching English language arts. In addition to meeting all Auburn University GPA graduation requirements, candidates must also meet all ALSDE GPA requirements.


Program Requirements

The program requires a total of 125 hours, which includes the following courses:


  • Freshman year:
    • Fall: ENGL 1100 English Composition I, Core History, Core Math, THEA 2010 Introduction to Theatre, Core Science I
    • Spring: Core History or Core Social Science, EDUC 1010 Orientation to Teacher Education, COMM 1000 Public Speaking, ENGL 1120 English Composition II, Core Science II
  • Sophomore year:
    • Fall: Select one of the following to complete a sequence: ENGL 2230 British Literature before 1789, ENGL 2240 British Literature after 1789, ENGL 2250 American Literature before 1865, ENGL 2260 American Literature after 1865, Core Social Science, American or British Lit 2000 level, JRNL 1000 Foundations of Journalism, Period of British Literature, Period of American Literature
