Participants will lead a short film project, teaching technical and creative skills to their learners.
• Structure: The course primarily consists of online sessions with a single full-day technical refresher session held in person at Screen Education Edinburgh (SEE) in North Edinburgh.
The online sessions are 2 hours each and held in the evenings.
• Course Schedule: The course runs for four months, from February 2024 to May 2024.
Participants should expect to spend around 5 hours per week on independent study outside of class time.
• Modules:
• Module 1: Designing the Short Film Project:
Participants will learn how to design a short film project in collaboration with their learners, aligning it with their professional values. They will develop technical and creative skills in filmmaking and learn about production processes, educational methodologies, and creative film evaluation techniques.
• Module 2: Leading the Learning: Participants will explore various creative methodologies for evaluating filmmaking projects and develop reflective strategies to enhance their professional practice.

Assessment:

• Two assessments are required to complete the course:
• Self-evaluation and Impact Report:
A 2000-word report analyzing the learning and impact of the filmmaking project on students.
• Short film with Production Documents: A short film with a maximum runtime of 5 minutes produced with learners, accompanied by production documents.

Teaching:

• Delivery: The course is mainly online with one face-to-face session.
The face-to-face session covers a technical refresher and takes place at SEE in North Edinburgh on a Saturday between 9am and 5pm during Week 2 of the course. The online sessions are scheduled for 2 hours in the evening.
• Faculty: Dr. Laura Findlay from Screen Education Edinburgh (SEE) delivers the module with support from film tutors at SEE.
• Unique Approaches: The course combines technical training with practical application through the short film project, providing participants with valuable hands-on experience.

• This course is the third of three courses in a PgCert Film and Screen Education program.
The courses must be completed in the following order:
• Introduction to Film Education
• Filmmaking in the Classroom
• Film and Screen Education in Practice
• Participants who have already completed the Introduction to Film Education and Filmmaking in the Classroom courses do not need to re-apply.
The program will automatically allow them to progress to this course.
• The course is supported by Screen Scotland and offers a limited number of free places to teachers and educators based in Scotland.
Applicants who meet the criteria should indicate their interest in a free place during the application process.
• The course will only run if enough participants register.
Confirmation of commencement will be given four weeks before the start date.
• QMU provides participants with access to the learning resource center, online resources, and limited online access to student support services.
