Entry Requirements


Chemical Sciences General Entry:

  • Leaving Certificate:
  • H5 in 1 subject and O6/H7 in 5 other subjects, one of which must be Irish, English or Mathematics.
  • Subjects relevant to Chemical Sciences are especially welcomed, such as Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science, Engineering, Geography.
  • OR
  • O6/H7 in 6 subjects, including Irish or English.
  • GCE A-Level:
  • At least two A-Levels, and at least three O-Levels (or equivalent) of which one is English.
  • Subjects relevant to Chemical Sciences are especially welcomed, such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Design and Technology
  • OR
  • BTEC National Diploma or BTEC Diploma in a relevant science subject (with Merit) and two GCSEs or equivalent (one English).
  • Mature Applicant:
  • A minimum of four years work experience in a chemical science/ related subject.
  • OR
  • A QQI Level 5 or 6 in a related subject with a merit or distinction grade.
  • EU/EEA applicants:
  • Same requirements as Irish students.
  • Non-EU Applicants:
  • Same requirements as EU applicants.
  • Must meet the following English language requirements:
  • IELTS (Academic) 6.5 overall, with no sub-test score less than 6.0
  • TOEFL 90 IBT overall with no score less than 20
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic): 61 overall, 59 in each component
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English: Grade C
  • Evidence of completion of an approved international English language course such as Kaplan International College

  • To study Chemistry with AI, you must first be accepted onto the Chemical Sciences General Entry Programme (DC163).
