Horticulture — Pre-Landscape Architecture Track (HRTB)
Program Overview
The Horticulture — Pre-Landscape Architecture Track is a four-year program that provides a comprehensive foundation in horticulture and landscape design. The program prepares graduates for careers in landscape architecture and related fields, and also provides a pathway to pursue a Master of Landscape Architecture degree.

- Overall Structure: The program consists of 124 credit hours spread across four years.
- Freshman Year: Students take introductory courses in horticulture, biology, chemistry, English, history, and mathematics.
- Sophomore Year: Focuses on plant growth and development, propagation, landscape plant identification, and additional core courses in literature and humanities/social sciences.
- Junior Year: Introduces intermediate landscape design, herbaceous ornamentals, and landscape design methods. Students also take courses in entomology, plant pathology, turfgrass management, and core social sciences and fine arts.
- Senior Year: Primarily dedicated to intensive landscape architecture studio courses, covering foundation, theory, history, construction, and graphic studies.
Careers:
Graduates can pursue careers in landscape architecture, landscape design, and related fields. The program prepares students for the Landscape Architecture Registration Examination (L.A.R.E.) and further graduate studies in landscape architecture.
Other:
Students interested in pursuing a Master of Landscape Architecture degree may participate in the Landscape Architecture Summer Design Studio after completing the first three years of the Pre-Landscape Architecture Emphasis and achieving a minimum GPA of 2.8. Successful completion of the studio and approval from the Landscape Architecture Faculty Admissions Committee allows students to apply to the graduate program during their fourth year.

Pre-Landscape Architecture Emphasis
To be eligible for the Pre-Landscape Architecture Emphasis program at Auburn University, students must meet the following requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent: All applicants must have earned a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum GPA: Students should have a minimum GPA of 2.8.
- Core Courses: Completion of the following core courses is required:
- Mathematics: Any core MATH course, except MATH 1100.
- History: A history sequence or one history course and one literature course.
- Social Sciences: One core social science course.
- Literature: One core literature course.
- English: ENGL 1100 and ENGL 1120.
- Science: BIOL 1030 and 1031, BIOL 1020 and 1021, CHEM 1030 and 1031.
Additional Considerations:
- Completion of the Pre-Landscape Architecture Emphasis does not guarantee admission to the Master of Landscape Architecture program.
