  • Emphasis on understanding traditional animation principles within the context of technology, history, theory, and professional practice.

  • Tripartite approach: Practice, Theory, Professionalism - with each element in "critical dialogue" with the others.
  • Ensures students' research and practice are at the forefront of the discipline.

Objectives:

Admission Requirements:

  • BA degree in Animation or related discipline.
  • Applicants from other disciplines (Costume, Graphics, Digital Media, Illustration, Modelmaking, Photography, Fine Art) may be considered with relevant understanding of the animation production process.

  • Three 60-credit units (180 credits total):

  • Defining Practice, Theory and Professionalism

  • Masters Project 1

  • Masters Project 2
  • Individual specialism in Animation - pre-production, production, post-production (character design, storyboarding, concept work, etc.)
  • May choose to create an animated film as a "final outcome" but can also develop an MA-level body of work through other forms of specialism.
  • Three-unit structure allows clear identification and development of ideas across practical, theoretical, and professional modes, culminating in the "Masters Project 2" unit.
  • Part-time option allows working professionals to develop their skills and practice and complete a major body of work over two years.
