Participants will explore zinc etching techniques, color inking and printing, and create large-scale etchings.

Making Colour Etchings: A Short Course Overview


A five-day intensive workshop

designed to help art practitioners with some prior printmaking experience develop


Focus:

  • various acid resistant grounds and aquatints

Day 1:

  • Introduction & prep
  • Test plate practice
  • Developing larger plates

Day 2:

  • Porthmeor Studios and Tate in St Ives
  • Etching with "the Sugar Lift" demonstration
  • Independent large plate development

Day 4:

  • Colour exploration: introduction and demonstration (3 multi-colour methods)
  • Supported skill development for individual etching/printing

Day 5:

  • Best-practice registration methods for etching techniques
  • Continued print/resolve project
  • Private View & student discussion
