Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements:


Undergraduate Admission:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent: Students must have a high school diploma or equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum GPA: A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required for admission.
  • Standardized Test Scores: Applicants are required to submit scores from either the SAT or ACT.
  • Specific Coursework: Completion of four units of college preparatory mathematics, four units of English, three units of science (at least one laboratory course), three units of social studies, and two units of a foreign language is recommended.
  • Additional Requirements for International Students: International students whose native language is not English must demonstrate English proficiency by submitting scores from the TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE Academic exam.

Graduate Admission:

  • Baccalaureate Degree: A baccalaureate degree in computer and/or electrical engineering or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher education is required.
  • Minimum Undergraduate GPA: A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.

MSECE 4+1 Program:

  • Current undergraduate Lewis students enrolled in either the B.S.
  • Computer Engineering (BSCE) or B.S. Electrical Engineering (BSEE) are eligible for the MSECE 4+1 fast track program.
  • This program allows students to make progress towards the MSECE program while completing their undergraduate degrees.
  • Students in this program will no longer need to take the MSECE foundation courses.
  • BSCE and BSEE students in the MSECE 4+1 program can complete up to 9 credit hours of MSECE courses while completing their undergraduate degree, and count them toward both undergraduate and graduate degrees.
  • This reduces the number of required credit hours for MSECE down to 24, which ambitious students may be able to complete within a year.

Language Proficiency Requirements:


For International Students:

  • International students whose native language is not English must demonstrate English proficiency by submitting scores from one of the following exams:
  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): Minimum score of 550 (computer-based 213; Internet-based 79)
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System): Minimum score of 6.0
  • However, strong English language skills are essential for success in the program.
