Program Information

A series of five small engine repair programs are offered and can be taken in any order. Upon completion, students are eligible to sit for the credential exam(s) offered by the Equipment & Engine Training Council (EETC).


Power Equipment Electrical Systems

Learn advanced techniques for repair of small engine and equipment electrical systems. Focus is on electricity and how it’s generated in the small engine and outdoor power equipment products in use today.

Driveline/Hydraulics

Learn techniques for repair of outdoor power equipment drivelines, hydraulics and hydrostatics. Drivelines refer to the use of belts and manual/gear transmissions and transaxles. Hydraulics are widely used in outdoor power equipment from hydraulic lift systems for attachments on tractors and wood splitters, to high pressure water sprayers. Hydrostatic transaxles, pumps and hydraulic motors are common in both traditional zero turn radius (ZTR) tractors. Gain hands-on practice to diagnose and repair the systems when trouble occurs.

Compact Diesel Engine Repair

This entry-level course provides the student with diesel engine service requirements and repair techniques. Topics include the theory of diesel engines, diesel engine construction and differences between a diesel and a gasoline engine.

4-Stroke Engine Repair

Learn 4-stroke engine design, application and how to service and maintain these engines. Learn the theory and how the components work together. Topics include compression, engine components, valve train, ignition and carburation.

2-Stroke Engine Repair

Learn 2-stroke engine design, application and how to service and maintain these engines. Examine cutaways, parts and disassemble an engine to see how it works. Learn basic ways to troubleshoot your engine when it is not working properly.

Admissions Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age on the first day of class.
  • Meet minimum essential functions and standards for program.
  • Attend a coaching appointment and/or information session prior to enrollment.
  • Complete all funding assistance paperwork (if applicable) prior to enrollment.
  • English Language Learners (ELL/ESL): If English is not the first language, prospective students must complete a CASAS assessment with acceptable score prior to program admission. CASAS assessments can be scheduled by emailing at or calling . Include your first and last name, program of interest, and program start date in your email. Assessment should be completed at least one week prior to program start date. CASAS assessment is also recommended, but not required, for prospective students who feel their reading comprehension needs improvement.
