Program Information

The Maintenance Technician program prepares students for entry-level employment and advancement as a maintenance technician in the residential property industry working with homes, apartments, townhouses, condominiums and other multi-unit complexes. Homeowners, real estate investors and property managers who wish to make their own repairs would also benefit. Gain knowledge and hands-on skill development in electrical, HVAC, painting, mechanical and appliance service and repairs, as well as lock and key services and property inspection. Learn strategies for establishing and maintaining curb appeal, recreational facilities and common areas. Additional topics include safety, processing work orders, preventative maintenance schedules, repair and replacement decisions, fair housing and environmental regulation compliance, professional appearance and behavior and communication with residents, team members and contractors. Upon completion, students are eligible to sit for the Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAMT) credential exam offered by the National Apartment Association Education Institute (NAAEI). Those who pass the exam will receive a provisional certificate; after documenting and submitting one year of industry experience, NAAEI will grant the full credential.

Admissions Requirements

• Be at least 18 years of age on the first day of class.
• Meet minimum essential functions and standards for program.
• Attend a coaching appointment and/or information session prior to enrollment.
• Complete all funding assistance paperwork (if applicable) prior to enrollment.
• English Language Learners (ELL/ESL): If English is not the first language, prospective students must complete a CASAS assessment with acceptable score prior to program admission. CASAS assessments can be scheduled by emailing or calling. Include your first and last name, program of interest, and program start date in your email. Assessment should be completed at least one week prior to program start date. CASAS assessment is also recommended, but not required, for prospective students who feel their reading comprehension needs improvement.
