Course essentials
Course aims:
- Develop a theoretical and practical understanding of the interaction between psychological processes, the nervous system, and the stress and immune system
- Expand basic science knowledge while having the opportunity to learn about clinical symptoms and treatment approaches
- Focus on clinical and molecular mechanisms of the brain and the mind, as well as interaction with body disorders and their underlying mechanisms
- Understand how to translate basic science into clinical practice
- Learn how to recruit patients, handle samples and carry out experiments – all skills which are highly valuable in academia and industry

Entry requirements

- Standard requirements: A minimum 2:1 undergraduate Bachelor’s (honours) degree
- If you have a lower degree classification, or a degree in an unrelated subject, your application may be considered if you can demonstrate significant relevant work experience, or offer a related graduate qualification (such as a Masters or PGDip)

- If you're joining us from a clinical background, you’ll graduate with additional clinical expertise, as well as a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying clinical symptoms
- If you have a biological background, you’ll boost your core science knowledge while exploring symptoms and treatment approaches
- You’ll have the chance to complete clinical placements across a variety of clinics within SLaM and KCH NHS Foundation Trust and research placements within laboratories across the whole IoPPN
- After you finish the course, you will be able to:
- Apply your skills in your career as a clinician
- Continue to further full-time study in an academic research environment (i.e., PhD)
- Apply to a taught clinical course (i.e., Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, if you have completed a BPS accredited undergraduate course before)

Fees & Funding
- Tuition Fees:
- UK: Full time £16,950 per year (2025/26), Part time £8,475 per year (2025/26)
- International: Full time £40,000 per year (2025/26), Part time £20,000 per year (2025/26)
- Deposit:
- If you receive an offer for this programme, you will be required to pay a non-refundable deposit to secure your place. Deposit payments are credited towards the total tuition fee payment
- The Home deposit is £500. The International deposit is £2000
- IOPPN Postgraduate Taught Scholarships: Scholarships of £5000 are available for this programme for 2025/26 entry, to support students with the financial commitments of postgraduate study. The scholarships are available for all full-time Home and International fee status students, with a deadline to apply of Friday 21 February 2025
