Course essentials

The course aims to enable nurses to transform bedside care by developing critical, analytical and evidence-based practice skills to lead improvements in health care quality, safety, access and value. The course is accredited by the Singapore Nursing Board, as listed on their website.

Entry requirements

There are four entry points to the programme throughout the year: January; April; July; October.


Students must satisfy the following entry requirements:


  • A diploma in Nursing from Nanyang Polytechnic or Ngee Ann Polytechnic; or an approved institution OR Nursing overseas qualification from an approved Higher Education Institution (equivalent to 120 Level 5 credits)
  • Current registration with the Singapore Nursing Board.
  • *GPA of (greater than or equal to) 2.7 as a benchmark for admission. In the case of an applicant without a *GPA of (greater than or equal to) 2.7, King’s may evaluate, on a case-by-case basis, other academic achievements and employer’s recommendation presented by the applicant.
  • Language: ‘O’ Level English or English, as detailed in King’s entry requirements OR
  • An International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6 in each band/skill or equivalent score in another recognised test if they obtained their qualification from countries where English is not the standard medium of instruction and/or their first language.

Teaching methods - what to expect

Blended learning


You can expect up to 50 contact hours for each module of the study course, and this will include both synchronous and asynchronous online and face to face lectures, seminars, tutorials, activities and workshops. Some areas of the course are designed to promote independent study supported by individual or group supervision. Contact hours for these modules will be adjusted accordingly.

We will assess your progress and attainment on all modules you take on the course through a range of techniques, which includes essays, portfolios, dissertation projects and examinations.

Required modules

Courses are divided into modules. You will normally take modules totalling 120 credits. You are required to take the following modules:


  • Research Methods, Critical Appraisal & Statistics (15 credits)
  • Legal & Ethical Issues for Professional Practice (15 credits)
  • Teaching, Learning & Assessing for Nurses (15 credits)
  • Nursing Assessment & Care Management Skills (15 credits)
  • Dissertation (30 credits)

Optional modules

You are required to take a further 30 credits from the group of elective modules indicated in the groups below. Both optional modules may not run if there is a low take up rate by students. Students will be informed whether the preferred module is running one month in advance of the module start date. King’s College London reviews the modules offered on a regular basis to provide up-to-date, innovative and relevant programmes of study. Therefore, modules offered may change.   • Palliative & End of Life Care Foundations (15 credits)
