Outline:

The Engineering Design MSc program is a one-year full-time or two- to six-year part-time program.

Modules:

  • Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Engineering: This module aims to help students understand the relationship between creative management, innovation, and enterprise.

  • Computer Aided Engineering: This module enables students to evaluate, choose, and implement CAE systems.
  • Engineering Design Methods: This module aims to provide students with a working understanding of some of the main methods that may be employed in the design of products and systems.
  • Product Design and Human Factors: This module aims to provide an understanding of the roles, methods, and skills of product designers and ergonomists in order to facilitate working in interdisciplinary design teams and to provide a basis for the further development of students' own skills in product design.
  • Sustainable Product Design: This module aims to provide an understanding of the tools and techniques available to facilitate sustainable product design and knowledge of the product design processes that can reduce environmental impacts and promote sustainable practices.

Assessment:

The program uses a combination of coursework and written examinations to assess student learning.


Teaching:

The program utilizes a variety of teaching methods including lectures, seminars, tutorials, independent study, group work, workshops, and practical sessions. Students are taught by experienced faculty members with expertise in various engineering design fields.


Careers:

Graduates of the Engineering Design MSc program are highly employable and have gone on to be design and project engineers and product designers in various companies including Chargebox, Jaguar Land Rover, JCB, and Network Rail. Some graduates have progressed to further study.

Language Proficiency Requirements:

All applicants, regardless of their nationality, are required to meet the University’s English language requirements. These can be fulfilled by achieving the following scores in one of the following English language tests:

  • IELTS: Overall score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in each component.
  • TOEFL: Overall score of 90, with a minimum of 20 in each component.
  • PTE Academic: Overall score of 65, with a minimum of 55 in each component.
  • Cambridge English Advanced (CAE): Grade C.
  • Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE): Grade C.
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Score of 59, with no communicative skill below 54.
  • If you have completed a degree that was taught and assessed in English, you may be exempt from taking an English language test.
