Program Overview

It covers key concepts, principles, and practices for assessing, designing, implementing, and operating sustainable water and sanitation infrastructure and services. Graduates are equipped for careers in international development agencies, government agencies, consultancy firms, and research institutions. The program is accredited by CIWEM and JBM and benefits from the research expertise of WEDC.

Program Outline

The program offers knowledge of key concepts and principles to assess, design, implement, and operate sustainable water and sanitation infrastructure and services. It also tackles the global principles and local practices of sustainable infrastructure and services.

Modules:

The program is formed of 7 core modules, 3 of which can be chosen as optional, and a final dissertation.

Research Methods (DL):

Teaches students about research, monitoring, and evaluation in resource-poor contexts.

Urban and Rural Sanitation Engineering (DL):

Equips students with the skills to design and operate sanitation services in rural and urban areas.

Management of Water and Environmental Sanitation Infrastructure (DL):

Introduces the principles, concepts, and challenges of managing sustainable water supply and environmental sanitation infrastructure.

Dissertation (DL):

Allows students to conduct individual research on a specific topic in the field of water and development.

Optional Modules:

• Disaster Risk Management (DL): Introduces students to sustainable disaster risk management activities.
• Humanitarian Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion (DL): Addresses the design and implementation of an emergency response to water, sanitation, and hygiene needs.

Assessment:

Assessments for each module typically involve assignments, which may be practical, group-based, or individual. The weighting of marks varies depending on the module.
