Graduate Diploma in Aviation – GDipAv
The Graduate Diploma in Aviation is a qualification that allows students to build on their previous degree or aviation industry experience. This qualification acknowledges and recognizes that having significant aviation experience has real value.
Overview
This 8-course qualification offers two options: Aviation Studies and Flight Instruction. The Aviation Studies option is available part-time and/or by distance, making it suitable for those who may be working while studying. The Flight Instruction option is available full-time, by selection only.

The Graduate Diploma in Aviation covers topics such as:
- Aviation human factors
- Aviation security issues
- Airline strategic management
- Legal issues in aviation
Entry Requirements
To enter the Graduate Diploma in Aviation, students must:
- Have been awarded or qualified for a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent
- Have demonstrated equivalent practical, professional, and/or scholarly experience
- Meet the prerequisite requirements for the 200-level courses
Specific Requirements
For the Flight Instruction endorsement, students must:
- Hold a Class One medical certificate recognized by the CAA NZ and meet appropriate pilot aptitude selection criteria
- Hold a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) - Aeroplane (A)
- Hold an Instrument Rating (IR)

Structure of the Graduate Diploma in Aviation
The qualification consists of 120 credits, with students taking eight 15-credit courses. Students will not be required to pass any 100-level prerequisite courses for the 200-level courses in the schedule.
