Master of Aviation – MAv

The Master of Aviation is a postgraduate qualification that enhances career prospects in the internationally competitive aviation sector. Massey University is the only institution in New Zealand where students can turn their passion for aviation into a tertiary qualification.


Overview

This qualification offers taught courses and independent research, allowing students to choose from two pathways: Research or Professional Practice. Both options are available part-time by distance learning or full-time on campus, providing maximum flexibility for aviation professionals.

Entry Requirements

Admission to Massey

All students must meet university entrance requirements to be admitted to the University.


Specific Requirements

To enter the Master of Aviation, students must have been awarded or qualified for a Bachelor of Aviation, Bachelor of Aviation Management, or equivalent qualification, with a minimum B- grade average in the highest level courses.


English Language Requirements

Students must meet Massey University's English language standards.


Structure of the Master of Aviation

The Master of Aviation is a parts-based qualification, requiring students to complete Part One before progressing to Part Two.


Research Pathway

  • Part One: 60-120 credits of taught courses, including a compulsory Research Methods course
  • Part Two: 60-120 credits of research

Professional Practice Pathway

  • Part One: 120 credits of courses, including compulsory aviation management courses and elective aviation courses
  • Part Two: 60 credits of professional practice in aviation
