Foundation Certificate (International) – FCert(Int)

The Foundation Certificate (International) is designed to prepare students for undergraduate study by improving their English and academic skills. This qualification is awarded without a specialisation.

Study a Foundation Certificate (International) – FCert(Int)

This qualification helps bridge the gap for students who do not meet the academic requirements for admission to Massey University's undergraduate qualifications. On successful completion, students are guaranteed admission to all unrestricted University undergraduate qualifications.

Entry Requirements

Admission to Massey

• All students must meet university entrance requirements to be admitted to the University.
• Massey University entry requirements

Specific Requirements

• Completed NCEA Level 2, or equivalent
• If English is not the first language, an IELTS of 5.5 overall with no band less than 5.0, or equivalent TOEFL score

Prior Learning, Credit, and Exemptions

• Review the Recognition of Prior Learning regulations
• Contact the university for information on prior learning, exemptions, and transfer of credit

English Language Skills

• If students need help with English language skills, they can take the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses

Structure of the Foundation Certificate (International)

• Complete 60 credits of core courses and at least 60 credits of Pathway courses

  • Academic English (15 credits)
  • Information Technology for Academic Studies (15 credits)
  • Introduction to Academic Communications (15 credits)
  • Socio-cultural context of Aotearoa New Zealand (15 credits)

Pathway Courses

Business Pathway

• Choose 60 credits from:
  • Accounting Fundamentals (15 credits)
  • Economics Fundamentals (15 credits)
  • Management Fundamentals (15 credits)
  • General Mathematics (15 credits)

Science Pathway

• Choose 60 credits from:
  • Biology Fundamentals (15 credits)
  • Chemistry Fundamentals (15 credits)
  • Mathematics Fundamentals (15 credits)
  • Physics Fundamentals (15 credits)
