Interior Fire Fighter Operations

Program Overview

The Interior Fire Fighter Operations program is designed for members of the fire service who want to gain the competencies for interior firefighting with credit towards their NFPA 1001 certification. This blended program consists of seven courses, which are a mix of online and hands-on, classroom courses.

What You Need to Graduate

  • This program consists of seven courses.
  • Students have 12 months to complete a course from the date of registration.
  • Students have up to two years (24 months) to complete all the courses in the program to receive a Certificate of Completion.

Program Format

  • Courses are online and in-person (in-person), at a JIBC campus or designated firefighter training facility in the community.

  • There are no specific application deadlines or set start dates.
  • Fire department training officers can submit program applications for their members at any time.

Exams & Evaluations

Online Final Theory Examination
  • Online final theory examinations must be requested for each student by the department training officer (or department designate) and must be proctored.
  • Students must be registered in the course before training officers can request the exams.
  • Students must have successfully completed all two FIRE-1055 Knowledge Quizzes before requesting to take the final exam.
  • Quiz 1 is made up of Module 1 and Module 2.
  • Quiz 2 is made up of Module 3 and Module 4.
  • Students must achieve a minimum passing grade of 60% on all quizzes and the final theory exam.
Practical Skills Evaluations
  • Skills evaluation requests are only available to students currently registered in FIRE-1056.
  • Skills evaluations must be requested for each student by the department training officer (or department designate) and must be evaluated by a JIBC-certified evaluator.
  • Each student will be required to complete a selection of mandatory and randomly selected skills successfully.
  • Skills Evaluation 1 - Module 1
  • Skills Evaluation 2 - Module 2
  • Skills Evaluation 3 - Module 3
  • Students must achieve a minimum passing grade of 75%.

Textbooks & Supplies

  • Course manuals are supplied when you attend class.
  • If additional books or other materials are required, you will be advised of the details after you are accepted into the program.

Admission Requirements

  • Prerequisite: JIBC Exterior Firefighter Operations.

Required Documents

  • Training officers must submit their members' Program Application Form to the Admissions Office with a $75 application fee per student.
