Course Structure and Admissions
Year 1
- Students will build knowledge and awareness of brand principles and the basics of how to bring together a fashion campaign.
- Alongside this, they will learn key skills in photography, film, graphics, illustration, and social media.
- Modules may include:
- Key Concepts in Fashion Media, Culture and History
- Promotion and Communication Design 1
- Exploring Fashion Marketing and Advertising: Perception and Storytelling
- Promotion and Communication Design 2
- Professional Life Practice: "Developing your Practice"
- Professional Life Practice: "Exploring your Practice"
Year 2
- Students will gain a greater understanding of multi-platform campaign building.
- At the same time, they will develop skills in building websites and writing market reports.
- Our students go live at this stage, taking on a work-based learning opportunity.
- Modules may include:
- Critical Discourse in Fashion Promotion and Communication
- Digital Production, Interaction Design and Visual Communication in Fashion
- Fashion Narrative, Interfaces and Creation
- Professional Life Practice: "Applying your Practice"
- Work-based learning
Year 3
- Students will be assessed on four components in their final year and we ask that they create a final major project from inception to realisation.
- They will also work on a range of national and international competitions to showcase their skills and build a well-rounded professional portfolio.
- We ask that they show their contextual studies research in a long form dissertation.
- Modules may include:
- Concept Development and Experimentation
- Final Major Project (Body of Work)
- Fashion Media Curation, Presentation and Public Installation
- Professional Life Practice: "Situating your Practice"
Entry Requirements
- At Ravensbourne we accept a wide range of qualifications for entry onto our courses, whilst also considering the context in which they were achieved.
- For this course, we would usually require a GCSE Grade 4 or above in English in addition to any of the below;
- Two A Levels at grade CC or above
- BTEC Extended Diploma at grade MPP
- UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma
- T Level (pass or above)
- Access to Higher Education Diploma
- International Baccalaureate at grade 24 or above
- Other/Mixed qualifications equivalent to 64 UCAS Tariff points
Portfolio Review
- Admission onto this course is also subject to a successful portfolio review.
- If you wish to study our BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion and Communication degree course, we will need to see examples of previous work that showcases your suitability for the course.
- Please provide the following for your portfolio review:
- The portfolio can be either digital or physical
- 12-15 portfolio pages, this may require you to edit your work
- Photography and film work films need to be in Quicktime files or uploaded onto youtube or vimeo so that the lecturer can view them on their laptop
- Work which demonstrates use of graphics and graphic layouts
- Theme-boards or trend boards which they can articulate during the interview, which showcase your thinking. We are keen to see how your research development has resulted in your finished pieces
- 1 or 2 good projects from conception to realisation
- A written piece of work, this can be on any subject but needs to be printed out, need to be able to also leave a copy
