Overview

The BS/DPM program is for the academically outstanding student with strong, realistic motivation toward the podiatric profession. Initial study at the University of Hartford allows students to complete the general education and basic science requirements for the BS in health sciences degree and the prerequisites necessary for professional study.

The BS/DPM program is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in podiatry. The program requires four years of combined academic and clinical training leading to the DPM degree, which is a prerequisite for licensure eligibility in the United States.

Admission Requirements

Applicants to the Health Science Pre-Podiatry articulation program between the University of Hartford and New York College of Podiatric Medicine (NYCPM) must demonstrate outstanding academic potential, maturity, and motivation for the pursuit of podiatric studies. To be eligible for admission, students must:

• Maintain at least a B average overall and in the sciences during the student's first three years of high school.
• Rank in the upper 20 percent of the student's high school class.
• Obtain a combined score of at least 1000 (Verbal and Math) on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
• Send a letter of intent to NYCPM upon matriculation at the University of Hartford.
• Complete at least 90 credits of coursework, including necessary prerequisites, by the end of the third year at the University of Hartford.
• Maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00 overall, with a minimum grade of C in all required courses.
• Submit an application for admission to NYCPM at the end of the second year of pre-professional studies at UHart.
• Show satisfactory performance on a professional school admission test (MCAT or DAT) or any other examination required by NYCPM.
• Obtain a recommendation for admission to NYCPM from the Premedical Professions Advisory Committee at the University of Hartford.
• Complete a satisfactory interview with NYCPM's Admissions Committee and participate in any orientation programs required by NYCPM.

The University of Hartford is accredited by the Board of Higher Education of the State of Connecticut and by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). The New York College of Podiatric Medicine (NYCPM) is accredited by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME). NYCPM is chartered by the regents of the University of the State of New York and is authorized to award the degree of Doctor of Podiatry.
