Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements:


Domestic Students:

  • NCEA Level 2 or equivalent qualification with at least 40 credits at Level 2 or above in any subjects.
  • A minimum of 16 credits in English at Level 2 or above.

International Students:

  • An equivalent qualification to NCEA Level 2, with a minimum average grade of C.
  • An English language proficiency test score of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent.
  • Applicants with relevant work experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Places on the course are limited and priority will be given to those students who meet the entry requirements and who have the highest grades.

Language Proficiency Requirements:

  • IELTS: 5.5 overall with no band score lower than 5.0
  • TOEFL: 60 overall with a minimum of 15 in Reading and Writing, and 18 in Listening and Speaking
  • PTE Academic: 50 overall with no score lower than 42
  • Cambridge English: First Certificate in English (FCE) Grade C or Advanced (CAE) Grade C
  • Other equivalent qualifications: Accepted by UCOL on a case-by-case basis.
  • Applicants who do not meet the English language proficiency requirements may be required to take an English language course before starting the program.
  • UCOL offers a range of English language courses to help students improve their language skills.
