Academy ICT Innovation (Level 2)

Program Overview

The Academy ICT Innovation program provides secondary school learners with a foundation in IT and computing applications. It covers essential skills in presentations, web development, databases, digital media, hardware, security, and programming. The program prepares students for careers in IT business support, administration, and technology support, and serves as a stepping stone for further study in the field.

• This program teaches the fundamentals of IT and computing applications and tools.
• It focuses on developing skills applicable to all areas of business, including:
• Presentations
• Web development
• Databases
• Digital media
• Computer hardware
• Digital tools
• Security

Structure:

• The program consists of 24 credits.
• It comprises 7 unit standards:
• Use the main features and functions of a presentation application for a purpose (3 credits)
• Produce digital images for a range of digital media (3 credits)
• Use the main features and functions of a database application to create and test a database (3 credits)
• Demonstrate knowledge of computing hardware, software and terminology to select digital tools for specified purposes (5 credits)
• Implement basic security when using digital devices and software (3 credits)
• Create a simple computer program to meet a set brief (3 credits)

Course Schedule:

• The program runs from February 12, 2024, to September 27, 2024.

Teaching:

• The program is taught by experienced and qualified instructors.
• It uses a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, tutorials, and hands-on activities.

Careers:

• The program prepares students for a variety of careers in the IT industry, including:
• IT business support
• Administration
• Technology support
• It also provides a foundation for further study in IT, such as the New Zealand Certificate in Computing or the New Zealand Certificate in IT Essentials.

• The program is fees-free for eligible students.
• Transport assistance is available for eligible students.
• Students must maintain appropriate attendance at both secondary school and the Academy to remain enrolled in the program.
