Degree Overview:

This MFA program in dance with a concentration in interdisciplinary digital media and performance expands on the strengths of the School of Music, Dance and Theatre and delves into the domain of new media practices. It provides a group of graduate students with an in-depth opportunity to specialize in both dance and transdisciplinary digital arts. Through interdisciplinary classes and research in the School of Arts, Media and Engineering, students gain access to advanced media equipment, studios, project funding, and collaborators.

Outline:

• Program Length: 3 years of residency
• Degree Requirements: 60 credit hours, including coursework, a final portfolio (8 credits), required courses in the concentration (18 credits), electives (15 credits), required courses in the School of Dance (19 credits), and ongoing showings of work.
• Areas of Expertise: Students choose areas related to independent research, creative and movement inquiry, technology, pedagogy, professional development, and theory.
• Assessments: Ongoing showings of work, a final Master of Fine Arts portfolio (original choreography, lecture demonstration, or other original work), a written document, and an oral defense.
