Teacher Certification (Graduate Certificate)
The graduate certificate in teacher certification is a flexible certification program designed for students who want to obtain teaching licensure in a compressed time frame while working in a classroom or taking the traditional route for certification.
Program Description
Through online courses, video-based teaching observations, and supportive coaching, the certificate qualifies as a pathway to Arizona teacher certification in elementary education, secondary education, or special education. Coursework may be completed over the span of three semesters, depending on the start date.
Tracks and Requirements
There are two pathways for this program:
- The alternative pathway requires students to be employed as a full-time teacher of record aligned with their certification area (elementary, secondary, or special education) before enrolling in the program.
- The traditional pathway allows students to complete an internship and student teaching placement in their certification area (elementary, secondary, or special education).

Admission Requirements
- General university admission requirements
- Applicants must fulfill the requirements of both the Graduate College and the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College
- Applicants are eligible to apply to the program if they have earned a bachelor's or master's degree in any field from a regionally accredited institution
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (scale is 4.00 = "A") in the last 60 hours of their first bachelor's degree program or a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (scale is 4.00 = "A") in an applicable master's degree program

Additional Application Information
- TOEFL: Applicants must have a score of at least 90 on the internet-based test (iBT), with scores of 22-30 on the speaking and written portions
- IELTS: Applicants must have an overall band score of at least 6.5, and speaking and writing portions need to be at least 6.5

ASU programs that may lead to professional licensure or certification are intended to prepare students for potential licensure or certification in Arizona. Completion of an ASU program may not meet educational requirements for licensure or certification in another state.
