Admission Requirements
Entry Requirements:
Academic Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree: Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution or its international equivalent.
- Minimum GPA: A minimum GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale is required.
- Philosophy coursework: Specifically for the History of Philosophy specialization:
- Applicants require 18 semester hours of undergraduate philosophy coursework.
- Of these, 6 hours must be in survey courses.
Application Materials:
- Completed online application form and fee.
- Transcripts:
- For coursework completed within the United States, submit copies of all transcripts from current and previous colleges/universities (except Marquette).
- For coursework completed outside the United States, a course-by-course transcript evaluation is required.
- Statement of purpose: outlining the applicant's achievements and intentions in philosophy.
- Letters of recommendation: at least three from professors or professionals familiar with the applicant's academic work and/or background.
- Writing sample: A philosophical writing sample between 15-25 pages, demonstrating skills in proper citation and bibliography, and philosophical reasoning.
- English proficiency: for international applicants only: a TOEFL score or other acceptable proof of English proficiency.

- Upon admission, official transcripts and transcript evaluations must be submitted to the Graduate School within the first five weeks of the term.
