Master's in International Affairs

The Master's in International Affairs program at Marquette University is a rigorous and flexible program that provides a strong foundation for further graduate or law study, as well as for careers in government or non-governmental organizations. The program requires 30 credits of graduate-level work and offers a range of topic areas, including:

Accelerated Degree and Dual Masters Program Options

The International Affairs program is offered as an Accelerated Degree program, which allows undergraduate Marquette students to earn their bachelor's and master's degree in five years. The program also offers dual master's degree options, including a dual master of arts-juris doctor (M.A.-J.D.) program in political science or international affairs.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the Graduate School at Marquette University, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution or international equivalent must be completed prior to starting graduate school.
• A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.
• Demonstrated English proficiency for non-U.S. citizens.

Application Details

The application requirements for the Master's in International Affairs program include:

• A completed online application form and fee.
• Transcripts:
  • If coursework was completed within the United States, submit copies of all current and previous college/universities except Marquette.
  • If coursework was completed outside of the United States, a transcript evaluation is required.
• Two letters of recommendation required, with a third letter encouraged.
• GRE test scores are optional.
• A statement of purpose.
• For international applicants only: a TOEFL score or other acceptable proof of English proficiency.

Application Deadline

The application deadline for the fall term is February 15, and the spring term deadline is November 15.

Aid and Fellowships

The department offers two types of financial aid: research assistantships (RA) and tuition scholarships. The Trinity Fellows Program is also available for students interested in the International Affairs master's program.

The department offers a range of financial aid options, including research assistantships and tuition scholarships. Private scholarships may also be available. U.S. citizens and permanent residents may be eligible to apply for need-based federal aid (loans) to help fund their educational expenses.

Trinity Fellows Program

The Trinity Fellows Program is a graduate fellowship program dedicated to developing urban leaders with a commitment to social and economic justice. Trinity Fellows participate in a 21-month study/work program while earning a master's degree. Those who have completed a full-time service program (minimum 10 months) and/or have worked for 2+ years in the nonprofit sector are eligible to apply.
