- The Secondary Art and Design PGCE is a one-year program equipping participants with the skills and knowledge to become confident and successful art teachers across KS3 and KS4.
- The program offers a comprehensive learning experience, including classroom teaching, curriculum development, and subject-specific pedagogy.
- Participants will receive intensive training and practical experience in two local secondary schools, along with opportunities to engage in arts projects and collaborate with professionals from leading regional art galleries and museums.
- The program culminates in participants achieving Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and receiving support with job applications.
Outline:
- The program is divided into two semesters, with the first focusing on induction and subject-specific knowledge development, and the second featuring intensive teaching practice in two local schools.
- Participants will attend weekly face-to-face sessions at the University, focusing on curriculum development, pedagogy, and subject-specific skills.
- The program also includes 20 Intensive Training and Practice (ITaP) days dedicated to foundational areas of learning.
- Each participant will receive 120 days of teaching practice in two local secondary schools, working with a school-based mentor and participating in day-to-day school life.
- Participants will engage in curriculum workshops covering various art disciplines, including ceramics, printmaking, drawing, mixed media, and collaboration with education departments in leading regional galleries.
- The program allows participants to visit a local primary school and gain additional experience working with younger students.

For this course, you need an Honours Degree with a 2:2 classification in Art and Design or a related subject and a GCSE grade C/4 or above in both English Language and Mathematics.
