This program aims to equip students with the academic skills required for successful pursuit of higher-level study in broadcasting and media, specifically Ara's Bachelor of Broadcasting Communications. Through a blended learning approach featuring tutorials, group projects, and individual work, students will develop essential academic competencies needed for successful university studies. This includes effective academic writing, presentation delivery, examination techniques, and critical thinking skills. Additionally, students will be exposed to specific subject areas relevant to the broadcasting and media field, such as writing and storytelling, te reo Māori, and various elective options like applied maths, media design and development, software design and development, and health and interpersonal relationships.

Entry Requirements:
Academic Requirements:
- 40 credits NCEA Level 2, including:
- 10 Level 1 Literacy credits
- 10 Level 1 Mathematics credits
- With a strength in Algebra for the Engineering Pathway
- Numeracy for other pathways
- Note: Statistics and probability do not count towards this mathematics credits requirement.

- Demonstration of equivalent skills for tertiary study gained through:
- study
- work
- life experience
- Note: The number of courses you need to complete may be reduced if you have:
- relevant credits from previous study This can be done through:
- A result from a test or qualification on the Acceptable Alternatives English Proficiency Outcomes Chart
- If you are a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident, complete an Admission and Enrolment form and Ara will contact you regarding a free assessment
- If you are not a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent resident, book an IELTS or other test through the Ara Examination Centre or in your home country
- IELTS scores used must be from a single IELTS Test Report Form and are valid for two years from the date of the test
- While entry to this program requires an IELTS level of 5.5 Academic, entry to some of the Ara degrees requires a score of 6.5 or 7.0 Academic
