In the practical-oriented Film & Motion Design programme at UE, fundamental methods, concepts and techniques for creating time-based media are taught and explored. From camera operation and sound design to analogue stop-motion animation, CGI and 3D modelling, through to digital compositing, hybrid film and visual music, the course offers a wide range of creative expression possibilities.

Curriculum | Film & Motion Design
Explore cinematographic design approaches and basic film editing concepts in current film formats and genres. The Film & Motion Design curriculum provides students with an insight into the film industry as well as the skills and knowledge to enhance their careers. Choosing to study Film and Motion Design opens a multitude of opportunities and UE’s curriculum supports this with the option of a semester abroad or internship during the fifth semester. The varied curriculum allows students to explore their favoured areas of the film industry and during the latter stages of the bachelor’s in film & motion design, they can tailor the programme to match their skill set and career goals.

Film & Motion Design at a glance
With a focus on time-based design, the Film & Motion Design programme prepares you for a variety of current and future professions in the fields of animation, film, design, scenography and media art. Your job opportunities are as varied as the media landscape itself.
After graduation, you will have a wide range of interdisciplinary skills as a motion designer, digital designer or film designer. You will be employed or freelance for agencies, television stations, film or game productions in the entertainment industry, the liberal arts, advertising or knowledge transfer in the media production of museums, trade fairs, theatres and event stages.
Our lecturers are established designers and artists from the film and media industry. They contribute their expertise, their practical experience and their professional network to the teaching. Collaborations with partner universities, cultural institutions and event organisations e.g. Reporters Without Borders, WallDecaux and TOA Festival, will complement the studies with exciting projects and public exhibitions.
