Become an Electrician

Construction electricians play a vital role in various job sites, responsible for wiring lights, heating, air-conditioning, and communication devices that are essential for daily life. Their work involves the installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices, and related equipment across residential, commercial, and industrial environments.

Electricians enjoy a dynamic work setting, transitioning between outdoor job sites and indoor locations, including residential and commercial construction and building maintenance. The profession also offers opportunities for specialization in cutting-edge fields such as:

The University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) offers a 24-week Construction Electrician certificate program that equips students with foundational skills necessary to enter the electrical profession. The curriculum includes critical topics such as essential math and physics, equipment testing, electrical code adherence, and blueprint reading. Students will gain hands-on practice in the lab and receive guidance from experienced instructors.

Participants will master skills required to handle:

Upon entering the workforce as apprentices, students can complete their apprenticeship training with UFV to earn a Professional Red Seal certification as a construction electrician.

Additionally, technological advancements and a rising global demand for energy will create new opportunities in renewable energy sectors, including:
