About Program

Program Overview

Bachelor of Arts (BA), Interdisciplinary Studies

Program Overview

The on-campus undergraduate Interdisciplinary Studies degree enables you to tailor your course of study so you can discover your specific professional calling. You’ll pick two concentrations and learn how to combine the two fields in effective ways. If you want to work in environmental conservation, you could study environmental science and public administration. If you want to promote business in a municipality, you may want to study business management and political science. This degree enables you to pursue a career in medical ethics, research, law, medicine, business, communication, computer science, cybersecurity, counseling, or public policy.

The Interdisciplinary Studies major will prepare you for a diversity of professions by equipping you with communication, critical thinking, and creative-thinking skills. Through your deep dive into two disciplines, you’ll also graduate with a mastery of content areas to prepare you for a career.

Why AU?

  • Tailored by You: You choose the courses that most interest you instead of following a set program from a single major. You’ll take a minimum of 18 credit hours in each of your two disciplines, and at least seven of those 12 courses—21 credits—need to be at the advanced, 300-400 level.
  • Time to Find Your Calling: Interdisciplinary Studies enables you to connect your knowledge—and credits—from that first major to a new one, and still graduate within four years.
  • Service: Through Interdisciplinary Studies, you can enhance any study of ministry by studying discipline combinations such as youth ministry and sociology, or missions and Spanish.
  • Freedom in Degree Completion: Many of the classes you can take to create your course of study are offered both in-person and online, so you have flexibility in how you complete your coursework. Such flexibility enables you to work a job or balance another commitment, while advancing your academic and professional life.
