Program Overview
TESOL: Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages MEd
The TESOL programme is designed for those who wish to further their knowledge and skills in this field, providing a special emphasis on how theory relates to practice.
Programme Structure
You will take three core and three optional courses and undertake a supervised research dissertation of 12,000-15,000 words on an issue relevant to your area of interest.

Deposits
International and EU applicants are required to pay a deposit of Ł2,000 when an offer is made.
Deposit Terms & Conditions
The following guidelines apply to deposit refunds:
- Deposits will be refunded under certain circumstances, including:
- If the University is unable to offer a place on the programme.
- Death of a close family member.
- Serious ill health of the applicant or a close family member.
- Applicant does not meet conditions of offer.
- Visa / ATAS refusal.
- If a refund request is received within 14 days of the deposit being received.
- Deposits will not be refunded under certain circumstances, including:
- An applicant decides not to attend the University for any reason not outlined above.
- Personal financial constraints / unsuccessful scholarship application.
- Applicant has decided to defer.
- There is still time to meet the English language test requirement before the final upload date.
- Visa / ATAS was applied for too late.
- Any documents used for admission are proven to be fraudulent.
- The refund request is received more than 30 days after the official course start date.

- Fee for re-assessment of a dissertation (PGT programme): Ł370
- Submission of thesis after deadline lapsed: Ł350
- Registration/exam only fee: Ł170

Entry Requirements
- 2.1 Hons (or non-UK equivalent) in English, Education, Applied Linguistics, Translation, English Literature, TESOL/TEFL (UG) or TCSOL (Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages).
- A minimum of 2 years post graduate professional relevant work experience is required.
- We can consider applications from graduates from other fields who have substantial TESOL experience and an evidenced commitment to professional development.
- A question-based personal statement explaining why you want to undertake this programme at Glasgow is required.
English Language Requirements
For applicants from non-English speaking countries, the University sets a minimum English Language proficiency level.
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic and Academic Online: 6.5 overall with no subtest less than 6.5
- Common equivalent English language qualifications accepted for entry to this programme include TOEFL, Pearsons PTE Academic, Cambridge Proficiency in English (CPE) and Cambridge Advanced English (CAE), Oxford English Test, LanguageCert Academic, and Password Skills Plus.
- Alternatives to English Language qualification include a degree from a majority-English speaking country or completion of the University of Glasgow's Pre-sessional courses.
