Overview
The Clinical Linguistics and Evidence-Based Practice (Research) MSc course is designed for graduates in speech and language therapy, clinical linguistics, psychology, and related disciplines with an interest in speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders. This research master's is ideal preparation for a PhD under the ESRC-funded (masters plus PhD) route or for students with NIHR pre-doctoral Clinical Academic Fellowship (PCAF) funding.

How You'll Learn
The course is delivered by Speech and Language Sciences in the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences and HaSS Faculty School X. Teaching is in person on campus. Assessment methods include computer assessment, dissertation, essay, poster, report, and written exercise.
Your Development
Your research project will inform the next steps in your academic or clinical career. It can take the form of a systematic review of the evidence base, a small-scale research or patient/public involvement and engagement (PPIE) project.
Your Future
The course is usually only available to students applying for a studentship from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). The course forms part of the 1+3 (Master's plus PhD) scheme under the Northern Ireland and North East Doctoral Training Partnership (NINE-DTP). To start the course, your application for ESRC funding must be successful.

Facilities
There is a Language Analysis Lab (LinguaLab) with specialist hardware and software devoted to clinical linguistic and phonetic research and analysis. There are also two on-site clinics which provide assessment and intervention services to adults and children with speech, language, and communication difficulties.

Academic entry requirements
A 2:1 honours degree, or equivalent, in a relevant subject area, such as linguistics, psychology, speech and language pathology.
