The Geospatial Surveying and Mapping BEng (Hons) program equips students with the skills and knowledge to work in geospatial fields such as surveying, mapping, and GIS. Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements:


A Levels:

  • 3 A levels to include Mathematics and Geography (or Geology, or Physical Education).
  • A level 2 certificate in Information Technology, or equivalent, is recommended.
  • Applications holding Level 3 BTEC National Qualifications are also invited, as appropriate.

IB:

  • Diploma Programme with 35 points, to include HL 4 in Mathematics and HL 4 in Geography (or Physics, or Physical Education).
  • A level 2 certificate in Information Technology, or equivalent, is recommended.

Scottish Highers:

  • Highers including 2 A grades at Advanced Higher, to include Mathematics and Geography (or Geology, or Physical Education).
  • A level 2 certificate in Information Technology, or equivalent, is recommended.

Irish Leaving Certificate:

  • Irish Leaving Certificate with H2 in Mathematics and H2 in Geography (or Physics, or Physical Education).
  • A level 2 certificate in Information Technology, or equivalent, is recommended.

Welsh Baccalaureate:

  • Welsh Baccalaureate with Core Mathematics and Core Science, alongside the equivalent of A level 3 Highers chosen to include Mathematics, Geography (or Geology, or Physical Education).
  • A level 2 certificate in Information Technology, or equivalent, is recommended.

Access to HE Diploma:

  • Access to HE Diploma, or equivalent, with 45 credits at Merit, and 15 credits at Distinction, including appropriate Mathematics and Science units.
  • A level 2 certificate in Information Technology, or equivalent, is recommended.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme:

  • IB Diploma Programme with a minimum of 35 points, including HL 4 in Mathematics and HL 4 in Geography (or Physics, or Physical Education).
  • A level 2 certificate in Information Technology, or equivalent, is recommended.

Extended Project Qualification:

  • It is preferable for applicants to also hold a recognised Extended Project Qualification, if available.

Selection criteria:

  • Applications are selected on the basis of academic merit, and availability of places.

English Language Requirements:

  • IELTS: 6.5 overall band with no less than 6.0 in any band.
  • Pearson (PTE): 62 overall with no skill below 60.
  • These scores should be from tests taken within two years of the start date of the course.

Alternative English Language Qualifications:

  • We also accept a range of alternative English language qualifications, such as those listed on the UKVI website.

Pre-Course Requirements:

  • It is beneficial for applicants to have some experience of using computers, however, this is not essential.
  • The University reserves the right to require additional qualifications or evidence of experience for entry onto the course.

Language Proficiency Requirements:

  • International students for whom English is not their first language must demonstrate that their English language skills are of a sufficiently high standard to meet the demands of the course.
  • Applicants must meet the minimum English language requirements outlined above.
