About Accounting

The Accounting program is focused on preparing students to earn their Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. The program is designed to provide the courses necessary for students to get all available exemptions for direct entry into the CPA Professional Education Program; these prerequisite courses are recognized by the CPA Atlantic School of Business. The curriculum will expose students to a broad range of topics including performance measurement of organizations and managers, reading and preparing financial statements, attestation of financial reporting, assessing taxation obligations, etc. The pedagogy is diverse and includes case studies, presentations, and experiential learning opportunities such as assisting community groups with financial literacy and assisting seniors with preparing their taxes.

Why Study Accounting at StFX?

The Accounting program will appeal to students who are interested in understanding how to measure performance and how to use such measures to manage performance. It provides students with a dynamic and global perspective on the reporting and use of information by both external (e.g., analysts) and internal (e.g., managers) users. It will prepare students to work in industry or to pursue higher studies in accounting.
