As a Building Control Surveyor, you will be part of an extensive network of over 3,500 professional public service surveyors responsible for ensuring buildings are safe, healthy, inclusive and efficient, and meet the standards set by the Building Regulations. You will be part of the planning, development and valuation of built environment projects. You will develop a wider understanding of the built environment process required to become a built environment professional/practitioner and have the opportunity to progress both professionally and academically.


They are property professionals who provide diverse services and offer impartial, specialist advice on a variety of property development control issues which includes advice on public safety, consumer protection, safety at sports grounds, and dangerous structures. They routinely work with the emergency services and other functions such as Health and Safety Executive, Trading Standards and Environmental Health to deliver safe buildings.

  • Entry to the course will be via successful completion of the Local Authority Building Control (level 4-5 ) qualification as part of the LABC/University of Wolverhampton ‘Articulation agreement’
  • Successful completion with credit profile of a Foundation Degree in a cognate area deemed equivalent to 240 credits of level 4 and 5 study (minimum of 120 level 5) or equivalent qualifications which will be considered on a case by case basis.
  • Application by Mature students onto the course is encouraged and you may be invited to attend an interview to ascertain your suitability for the course.
  • Applicants with semi-cognate qualifications will also be considered provided this is supplemented by relevant ‘Industry’ experience.
  • Advanced entry above level 5 may be considered dependent upon qualifications and experience of the candidate and will be subject to FSE RPL requirements.(Subject to professional interview).
  • Non-native speakers of English are required to achieve IELTS with an overall band score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each element.
