Economics and Finance BSc (Hons)
Course Overview
The Economics and Finance degree is a combined program that provides students with a strong foundation in economic concepts, theories, and tools to understand modern economies, as well as knowledge of financial markets. The program covers two main branches: financial markets and corporate finance. Students will learn how to distribute risk and returns across financial markets and examine the relationships and interactions between lenders, brokers, and borrowers.
Course Structure
The program is designed to give students comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of corporate finance, including investment theories, exchange rate and interest risk management, agency problems, and various theories of corporate capital and payout structure. The course structure includes:
- Year 1: Introduction to Economics, Business Analytics, Financial Techniques and Analysis, and optional modules such as Principles of Management and Organisation, Management and Enterprise, and Introduction to Contemporary Management Issues in Ethics, Sustainability, Human Resource Management (HRM) and Tourism.
- Year 2: Corporate Finance, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Investment and Portfolio Management, and optional modules such as International Economics and Trade, Econometrics, Law for Business, and Banks and Financial Markets.
- Year 3: Financial Economics, Advanced Corporate Finance, and optional modules such as Understanding the Global Economy, Competition and Strategy, Advanced Econometrics, Applied Economics, Financial Technology (FinTech), Behavioural Finance, Corporate Governance, Financial Derivatives, International Banking, and Bank Management.

Entry Requirements
- GCSE Maths at grade C/4 required if not demonstrated by the Level 3 qualification
