Overview

The Special Studies program at the University at Buffalo (UB) is designed for students who cannot find a major that aligns with their interests or goals. This program allows students to create their own major, combining different areas of study to create a unique degree.

What Will I Learn?

As a Special Studies major, students work with faculty experts to map out an intentional program, including classes and ultimate learning objectives. Students can choose to earn a Bachelor of Arts or Science degree, depending on their goals. Past degrees have included industrial design, journalism, Japanese language and culture, and French language and linguistics.

What Can I Do Outside of Class?

Special Studies majors can participate in various activities, including:
