- Depth: 3 credit hours, chosen from advanced courses in mathematical statistics, advanced calculus, differential equations, or foundations of algebra.
- Breadth: 10 credit hours, selected from a variety of elective courses in applied mathematics, mathematical statistics, numerical analysis, topology, mathematical computing, and theoretical mathematics.
- Additional Electives: Enough courses to reach a total of 120 semester hours. The program also requires a minimum of 40 semester hours of junior and senior level coursework.

- The Communication Literacy requirement for the Mathematics (B.A. or B.S.) major includes two of the following courses: MATH 3310, MATH 3360, and MATH 4350.
- Students must complete at least 37 credit hours in mathematics, with at least half of the upper-division (3000- and 4000-level) courses taken at Texas Tech.
- Students must also complete 6 hours of foreign language coursework at the sophomore level or above.
